And it's finished!

My spare/craft room is finished! The task wasn't really as bad as I thought it was going to be. I still need to sort through my craft stuff and get it all organized in the closet and the cube shelves that I got but other than that it's done! I'm excited to get started on crafting in there!

To see what it looked like before scroll down a little bit.
And here's now pictures:

Quite a difference huh? And you can actually see the bed!

Hope everyone has a great start to 2011! I'll be back on Monday. We're heading to our cabin tomorrow morning to bring in the new year with my family!

There's Progress!

Once I get my mind set on something it usually gets done. And the spare room/craft room is almost there. I was lucky enough that my mom had the day off work today and volunteered her time to come help.
She picked me up this afternoon and after stopping for a quick lunch we hit Home Depot, ShopKo and back to Home Depot. A $130 in storage supplies later we were ready to rock n' roll.

This is what I got:
Martha Stewart Living 9 Cube Organizer: $44.97: Home Depot
2 of these plastic shelves that are in the closet: Special Buy: $19.95: Home Depot

I also bought 6 collapsible cubes from ShopKo to go into the cube shelves but they ended up being too big. *Fail* It looks like I'll have to go spend $2 more per cube and get the special Martha Stewart ones.

I didn't think I did too bad considering storage things are really expensive! Most shelving units are $50 to $60 and since we're still renting I couldn't get anything that attaches to the wall.

All of the shelves are set up. The 2 in the closet are full and the cubes are just waiting for their drawers.

I'll have pictures tomorrow of the finished room! I'm so excited and relieved to have this (almost) behind me and moving onto something else!

Goal #1

My most immediate goal right now is my spare room. It's been the dumping ground for the entire year we've lived here for anything that didn't have a place at that time or that I didn't want to take time to find a place for it. No place in the kitchen for the breadmaker? Put it in the spare room. Don't know what to do with wedding gifts? Put them in the spare room. You get the idea.
Needless to say it's been a weight on my shoulders for quite some time now and I want a craft room. Crafting is a way for me to escape and destress after work and it's hard to find the motivation to do it when I have to pull everything out just to put it away. And, I want to learn to sew and being able to leave my sewing machine on it's table would probably force me to use it more than when it's tucked away.
So... I have 5 more days until I go back to work and my goal is to get the room functional. And then it's on to focusing on my weight.

Just to give you an idea of how bad it is... I promise the rest of my house doesn't look like this. Don't put my name in for the tv show "Hoarders." Although... they would come help me clean the room...

Looking in from the doorway.

The desk piled with everything we don't know what to do with.

And a close-up of the big pile in the middle of the room. There is a bed in there somewhere.

What's your most immediate goal for the start of the new year?

New Year, New Me

It's cliche, I know. I've always been the person that's laughed inside when people would tell me "This is the year I change." But now I am one of those people.
There's a lot of things in my life that I feel that I've lost the balance with and it's affecting me more an more. That needs to stop. It's time to take charge of my work life, home life, relationships, and weight.
And this is the place for me to vent, boast my successes, whine about the failures and to overall just keep me motivated. I know 2011 is going to be the year that I finally focus on ME.
